John Heyl


About John Heyl

John L. Heyl is a graduate of Trinity College in Harford Ct. He returned there four years after graduating and began a career in not-for-profit fundraising and administrations. He went on to run development and advancement offices at a number of institutions including the Harvard Business School, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institutions, Bowdoin College, WPI, and most recently the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC, the world’s largest intentional security think tank, where he served for eight years as Sr. VP until retirement in 2014. He is a member of the Corporation of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

He spent many summers in Maine while a student, both as a camp counselor and lobsterman on Louds Island in Muscongus Bay, and developed a love of Maine, the sea, and boats. He is an avid reader of science and technology publications and golfer. He and his wife live in Naples, Florida and have a summer home in Falmouth, Mass.
